Yes that's correct, but in my memory Lauren, this was a church thing, Catholic church in particular.

Halloween was there in some way but not as it is today. I guess not a lot was as it is today.

The reason Irish people went to America and Scotland was due to the potato famine when many people starved to death. That served as a huge lesson to farmers that monocultures just cannot work.

The ones who settled in Scotland did so because it was close to Ireland and hopefully they'd be able to return at some point in the future.

You can see why they would have used potatoes for their celebration. It was what they had.

Halloween has ramped up here too. So much tawdry stuff everywhere.
