What a great read, Helen. I find typos in almost every book I read, but if the book is good, if it's hooked me in, why on earth would I care?

This reminds me of a BIG BOOK I was reading with my students some years ago. I think they were year one, maybe two, so pretty young. It was full of conversational speech.

One kid put up her hand and said, 'But the punctuation is all wrong'. I had taught them that speech marks are like opening and closing your lips...no need to get too technical with six year olds.

I checked it, and sure enough she was right. I was so delighted. She still is a pretty well-known Australian writer, but I have resisted telling her the story.

As for getting a one-star review...I wrote a tongue-in-cheek short story about a successful real estate agent throwing in the towel to become a fortune teller in order to do good...no marks for story line, or for sentence structure, nothing to commend my book at all...stories like mine, it would seem, are why fortune tellers get such a bad name.
