Well Stuart your wife is one lucky woman, given you have taken over cooking for the children.

I have reached the realisation that my husband will never be more than a sous chef.

With a scientific background, he can't wing things, and we're not talking chickens here!

Everything has to be on the bench before he can even begin to cook, and then...

So I have give up. His sous chef duties he performs with grace, so I should be grateful.

There is no doubt that in retirement we lean into the reality that we will not be here forever, and so, learning to be one's best friend, finding ourselves deep in the serenity of aloneness, is not a bad way to go.
