We do, Carol, and I've only been scared by one, and all I can call it was a flying insect

So I was in my sister's garden some years ago, and I felt a sting, and thought, bugga, that really hurt!

I saw the best fly away, but really it was just a little insect. I couldn't describe it.

Five minutes later I was writhing in pain, but we were leaving the next day to go to my SIL's place (a nurse) and I thought I'd medicate myself and show it to her.

Her response was she'd seen people lose limbs to something less than that.

Anyway, she treated it for two weeks (wouldn't let me leave until it was healed).

This prick became about the size of a 50 cent piece, a serious flesh-eating wound. Thank goodness for antibiotic powder. It's good stuff.

It took about a month to completely heal, and today I don't even have scar (or maybe it's hiding among all the other scars I have on these legs that have supported my for thousand of miles of running)!

So all this and I don't even ave a name for the beast.

This is the closest I can get to what it might be, except mine was hugely painful for ten minutes or so.
