Unless a child has a particular visual leaning problem, dyslexia, as you point out, I have found as a teacher, that the families who read together, who set time for family reading, and who value books, generally do well.

The other thing to consider too, is the teacher's enthusiasm for literacy (I'm just writing about this). They must demonstrate a love for the written word, and a love for writing. The reason for this is that reading an writing permeates all the other key learning areas.

It's complicated. No doubt about that. Lovely to meet you.
