Though there were many aspects of teaching I did not like, the 'superiors' who hated teaching and got out, then became 'consultants'.

In Australia teachers are leaving in droves. They drown in paperwork, testing, and evaluating. The profession needs a revamp.
As for summers off, teachers here meet for planning in their downtime, so whilst it's a more relaxed few weeks when they meet, it would be hard to consider it holiday time.
Maybe try to do something else for a while and if the call to teach is still there, you will hear it.
