This is such delicious writing. I imagined every moment of this story, and just kind of knew there was going to be a let down...pure punishment for having had the audacity to steal the coveted future-son-in-law -in-the-making. That sort of crime ALWAYS must be punished.

I have had two 'plastic trays' in my adult life. One was a packet of biscuits from the $2 shop. The other a house, an ornament also sourced from the same shop, all while beautifully-indulgent gifts were being screamed over.

You can always tell if your gift is of the ubiquitous nature, selected from the shelf of gifts that must be passed on.
