This is such a lovely story, Sherry and reminds me of my mum who contracted polio when she was 18 months old.

With too many children she could never afford to have shoes especially made for her, so I imagine she never ever wore really comfortable shoes (expect for when she learned to make them!), but also it meant he could never comfortably dance.

What her disability did make her, was resilient. She was always out to prove herself rather than feeling sorry for whatever she couldn't do.

I'm sure, like you, she would have looked longingly at fancy shoes, but that is all it would have been, a longing.
