There's a move afoot here to make those who rent out pay a lot more for council rates and the likes. Of course the people who own the properties are up in arms.

I watched a program n ABC last night on the people in Queensland who are now homeless because of A, the paucity of of places to rent, , B, the landlords who are not renewing leases (because they can do a quick re-do and charge a fortune for crummy property, and C, the inordinate prices now being charged.

One young single mother works and lives at a old hotel where she has one bedroom which she shares with her two babies. While she is working there, she parks them at the end of the hallway where she she is cleaning, and at night while they are asleep,she works the bar.

We used to call Australia The Lucky Country. I am saddened beyond belief.
