The Plastics Industry Continues Polluting
And we are challenged to choose
Yesterday morning, I read this sad story written by about birds in Lord Howe Island who are so full of plastic they crunch and crackle.
Suma’s story inspired me to find an article I’d written a few years ago to establish whether anything has changed in the industry.
The story below is the revised version.
Plastics, the once miraculous product, is now a hugely negative environmental threat.
It has taken too long for many of us to believe that the ever-so-convenient plastic,
Tupperware;
storage boxes;
children’s toys;
bodies of most domestic machinery;
plastic wrap;
cooking utensils;
plastic plates;
Plus, the computer I am currently working on, are now seen as an environmental hazard.
And yet, to imagine a world without this durable material is almost impossible.
The notion of reverting to wrapping lunches in paper just doesn’t stack up.
