I recently read a disturbing book based on a true story where an African American nurse, through the prejudice of a member of the white supremacist movement, lost her job and was banned from practicing in a hospital where she had worked for twenty years.

Twenty years without one complaint about her standard of care!

How can that possibly be?

What disturbed me was that the hospital authorities and every one of her colleagues deserted her, like a sinking ship.

  • Not one of them stood up in her defense.
  • Not a soul called to visit, to see how she was doing.
  • Moreover, the hospital was happy to make her the scapegoat in the death of a child.
  • As for feeding her family, and meeting her financial obligations, nobody seemed to care.

Such is life for many people who suffer racial discrimination. The fragile belief that as…
