I think we were all upset. Rohan came into my class as a really shy little boy.
I remember at the beginning of the year, he had no idea about reading numbers, and each day I'd work quietly with him until he could read and write write numbers in the hundreds.
I then explained about what I called houses.
The hundreds house had ones, tens, and hundreds.
Then there was the thousands house...same set up, one thousand, ten thousands and hundred thousand.
Of course I drew little pictures so he could understand.
Eventually he said, "Is that all it is? So this would be...
Thereafter he loved to write numbers on the board and have other kids read them.
That's the magic of teaching.
I went looking for him on FB and found him. I'm thinking about contacting him. He now has a little girl. :)
