I remember being bitten by an insect in Queensland. It hurt a little, then it was soon horrendously painful, and ended up being like a flesh-eating wound.

Fortunately my SIL is a nurse and she dressed it every day. It went from being a pin prick to being about the size of a fifty cent piece.

Interestingly, it healed and left no scars.
