Thank you Deborah. It's much the same for us. And that extends beyond eateries.

I was in an expensive butcher's shop some time ago, and ordered some beef. The young girl stuck her hand in the tray and right there and then I stopped her.

'But,' she said, 'all the men do it.'

I didn't stop to ask how and if she had been trained by the boss. I just never went back. As a once health and safety officer, I should have reported it, but I didn't. Did I feel guilty? Absolutely. We rely so heavily on rules and guidelines being followed.
