I realise there are huge differences in autism (I'm a teacher), but there's also elements of autism that are beautifully-hidden, disguised, you might say by very high intellect.

Some of that doesn't raise its head until later in life, or when a partner suspects.

These days we can, and should do as much as possible to enable autistic people to merge happily into society.
