I was reminded here of an interview for a job I was invited to apply for. I felt very confident. I had more than the requisite teaching qualifications.

I didn't get the job.

It was given to a parent (also a teacher) who didn't have the qualifications, and that was because she had raised a significant amount of money for the school.

She left half-way through the year.
