Some years ago I read that after the potato famine, many Irish people fled to the west coast of Scotland, away from the devastation, but close enough to return if ever they could.

I grew up in the west coast of Scotland too, Tom. My dad actually was Irish, but on both sides of the family we have Irish names, so I'm supposing my ancestry is pretty much Irish.
