So Lauren ...this is my take on things. Right from the cradle our children are watching us, listening to us, seeing how we support or don't support others, and their behaviour blooms accordingly.

Whenever I taught a bully, I could easily link it back to another bully, often a parent.

The way we respond to each other in family situations, the way a child pours her heart and soul into school work, or sports, is largely governed by those early years in the first instance, but then reading and interacting as a family.

I remember a young student who could run like the wind. One one occasion she was in a distance run, easily set to win, when a disadvantaged 'shorts came undone (elastic broke) and she stopped to help her.

She didn't win the race, but she won a bucket load of hearts that day.

Your daughter's heart is a combination of family love, a terrific mum, and innate ability.

Congratulations to her ... and to you (and Gram!).
