One thing I remember when Canberra was on fire, is a whole street of homes burnt to the ground and several left intact.

A friend (with six adult children) has her home in that street. You can imagine with six children and school fees to match, their house was ripe for renovation.

They were away when their street was ignited and she hoped hers would be razed. Sadly it was the only one left intact, while the renovated ones were burnt to ashes.

That may be how the fire blows.
