Yesterday Elise wore her marching band raiment.
And she marched with the band onto the football field.
Then came the rain and the puddles and the mud.
The shoes were scuffed.
The socks were soaked.
The pants were split when she slid into the goalpost.
The jacket was ripped when it got caught on the tubaβs bell.
The blouse was now more black than white.
The tie was just fine.
The hat was crushed along with her ego.
And the hatβs feather was lost.
Today she threw away her marching band rags. Even the tie.
She kept her clarinet, though.
