Some years ago, Canberra and New South Wales were in a drought.

It was a scary time. It went on forever and many felt it would never rain again.

Months and months went by, and eventually council stepped in and imposed very severe restrictions.

Water was drastically rationed

We were supplied with what looked like little egg timers to time ourselves in the shower. Two-minute showers were mandated. Easy, by the way!

We could only water our gardens at dusk, and only on particular days, according to our numerical address.

Only full loads of washing were allowed.

The results were

Lawns looked and felt dead.

It was a pretty miserable landscape.

Many, in ignorance, simply ignored restrictions.
