Our daughter is grown up and married, and went to school reading, but not because we taught her. She loved Sesame Street and that served as her introduction to reading. Thereafter she would point out names at the shopping malls.
We read her so many books and on those nights when we had already gone through a gazillion books, if we even tried to cut a story short, she would guide us back to the correct page.
Somehow there was a magical transition from reading, to writing. Maybe we were just lucky!
Don't worry too much if your child struggles initially. Have fun helping in the process, It's not a competition!
