Oh my goodness, this brought back so many memories. I was born in Scotland where Catholic education was free, just like public. (Irish Catholic)
The level of cruelty by the head master (principal) was unbelievable. Yet there we were being taught the fundamentals of our faith.
My teachers were lovely. He was not.
As far as religion was concerned, our attendance at mass on Sundays and receiving of communion, were recorded on a chart, a visual reminder of our sinfulness...or goodness, dare I say.
There was a lot of fear in leaving the church. That I remember vividly. People who did so because of marriage, were ostracised.
These days I wonder why people were so gullible. But them they didn't enjoy the experiences that we take for granted.
Thanks for the walk down Memory Lane.
