My Intuitive Reaction to Walk With Her
I hope it saved her bacon
I remember being lost many years ago, by the Glencoe National Nature Reserve and the famous massacre that took place here in 1692.
My friend and I had been doing a bit of hitch-hiking (secretly, of course, because we were impoverished students at the time), and we’d been dropped off as the gloaming was coming to a close.
The driver just asked us if this would do, to which we nodded, and as his car headed away from us, we realised we were now at risk. Ten minutes maximum and we’d be toast. There was not one building around us.
And just as that feeling enveloped us, and we wondered if we’d survive the night, a car stopped.
“You young girls would be needing a lift and somewhere to stay. Am I right?”
We nodded.
“Then hop in. I run and bed and breakfast close by. It just happens I’ve a cancellation.”
The rest of the story is inconsequential. It was a long time ago, and a safer time ago, but it was the first time we’d ever hitched a ride, and though it turned out well for us, it didn’t serve as the lesson it should have.
Feeling lost is not a great feeling.
