Picture the scene…

You are a young, ambitious lawyer with hopes and dreams. But suddenly, your world comes crashing down.

Home for a special family weekend, a healing occasion, after your mother’s traumatic passing.

You are about to leave when your father calls you aside. He tells you that he has just found out that your mother’s death was from a genetic disease called Fatal Familial Insomnia.

The words fatal and familial resonate with you, and you realize that it’s probably hereditary, and that you too, may be a carrier of the genetic mutation.

The disease kills people by stealing their ability to sleep, robbing them of memory, and eventually death at around fifty. The news is a stinging blow.

“Do you want to be tested?” he asks.

‘A strong, positive attitude will create more miracles than any wonder drug.’ Author Unknown

Her mother’s death had been a torturous, year-long decline, after seemingly overnight becoming forgetful, quickly sinking into dementia, and then being unable to sleep…ever
