Loved this. My dad would have been maybe one or two when his family arrived in Scotland, but he was always Irish.
He was a very gentle man, but whenever the topic of monarchy came up, he was in there with the rest of the bigots. He had no time for anyone who didn't do an honest day's work.
He used to refer to them as gadgies (a person who is poorly educated and engages in hooliganism, petty criminality or loutish behaviour) maybe because he could see that they served little purpose.
Irish or not, that the royals would visit Scotland and wear the kilt...how dare they? As for Balmoral and prime land, when the average Scot was as poor as a church mouse, he, like Robert Burns, had much to say.
