Short-lived popularity is a product of marketing, not mastery. To garner attention is a dubious achievement. Any shameless loudmouth can draw a crowd. It is a menagerie of lowly things that make for facile diversions, but while shouting and scandal can earn a momentary glance, only substance can keep the eye trained. Above the rabble’s din there is the eternal silence of the mountain top.
