It was the overtime I was referring to, Pam. Some years ago I was asked to teach literacy at a university in Canberra, filling in for a lecturer who had become ill.
I was given one weekend to write the program, which I did, then had to massage each week because it was bad (my take on that), I had to write the exam, mark the exams, attend academic meetings, and I was paid nothing for my work...just the usual sessional payments. I vowed and declared I'd never do it again. So when they approached me to do the rest of the year I said no.
I am happy to give my time to charities and to help people in need, but I won't work for nothing. They are two very different beasts.
