It Was His Last Supper
RWDrabble 2.0.079 : flicker
This is a double drabble.
We are all completely beside ourselves. We will never know how we will ever be able to get over our loss.
You see, our beautiful dog Tuppence had just scoffed all the food on our dining table, enough to feed seven people.
As soon as I realized I’d left the door ajar, I raced to close it.
Too late. There he was, licking his chomps. The look on his face I will never forget.
Still, it was too late, and I found myself yelling at him, something he was not used to.
He jumped off the table, scurried around us, and out the front door.
By that time, it was getting dark. He scampered onto the main road right in front of a truck.
The poor driver. He did his best to avoid him.
But it was okay, or so we thought. Tuppence ran back inside and did a circle or two of the hallway, eventually collapsing at the bottom of the stairs.
His chest heaved and heaved, and then gradually, his eyes just flickered.
Dad knelt down beside him.
We all held our breath. Maybe he was just hurt.
But the tears running down Dad’s cheeks told another story.
Tuppence was my two youngest brothers’ dog. It is sad to say that the story was based on truth.
