Is it a wonder that teachers are leaving in droves, Otis?
There's an Australian book called The Burnt Stick, a heartbreaking story of children being taken away from their aboriginal mothers.
When reading it and I was close to the pivotal point in the story, I'd close the book and explain that they were going to be reading the saddest story ever, BUT, the women would have no clothes on. "I want you to be able and mature enough to read the story in the actions of the women and in their faces. If you are not mature enough t see this, let me know now. I will send your to another classroom while the rest of us finish the story."
I never had an issue, not from students, or parents.
