Interestingly, my daughter's two best friends in primary school were Vietnamese refugees. Color never ever came up, even when the girls weren't there.

I taught at the school the three girls attended and there was zero tolerance of racism. Expectations were factored into the curriculum.

I'm just wondering what we might have done that enables these children to merge happily into school life.

As for your little boy, Sally, I read empathy into his statement. At six children don't have the language skills to fully explain how they are feeling.

I wrote this one about being twins a few months ago. It just shows that some kids don't even notice colour.
