In some ways Natalie, you will be so much better off because you have taught yourself, rather than being guided by someone who clearly should not be in the job.

I don't know why people take on these managerial positions ...but my guess is it’s about power.

I've just thought about my last school where I spent 19 years. In that time I had one superior. I call her a superior because she was superior intellectually, but she used her intellect to guide and nourish us from the rear.

She wasn't the principal. She was the deputy, but I have no doubt who was in charge.

She knew everyone's talents, but also their weaknesses and to that end engaged outside help so we grew in confidence and ability.

She totally changed our teaching practice by exposing us to best practice, but also ensured that the less confident were supported collegially.

This worked beautifully.

And when the leadership changed, the foundations of all she'd worked hard to put in place, crumbled.

But thinking of you and your situation ... in recent weeks I have had to teach myself all manner of things that I had deliberately avoided simply because none of it interested me.

Now I have to know and understand, and so far I have enjoyed a 100% success rate. That has raised my confidence hugely, but the loudest cheerer on the sideline is my daughter. I like that.

I'm sure your family will be cheering loudly for you too, as will be your colleagues. 💜💜💜
