I'll try. Do you understand doh to doh on a musical scale?

There are eight notes...doh, re, me, fah, so lah tee, doh, which makes an octave (7 notes) . Not sure if I have spelt them correctly.

So these seven notes (doh is represented twice) form a scale whether it be the scale of C, D, A, whatever.

For now I am talking major scales.

When you write music using these seven notes ,our ears (mine and yours because we are not Asian), expect what we call resolutions. Tee resolves mostly, but not always, to doh.

A pentatonic scale on the other hand, is a musical scale with five notes per octave, in contrast to heptatonic scales, which have seven notes per octave.

So the pentatonic scale to my ear, and those who embrace the heptatonic rules of music, doesn't seem quite right.

Of course one could get used to it over time.

There's a lot more to it than that, major and minor scales, but that's the very basics.

Do you play music by any chance?
