My mum went into hospital when she was 18 months old with what was called scarlet fever.
Every child left that ward a polio victim.
Mum wore a caliper until she was 14, then ditched it. She went on to marry and have seven children.
Like Paul, she was super-determined, and, though she won scholarships to study, she was the eldest of the family and as such, never went to university. She could have.
Her determination was that her children would. Five of the seven did, She was happy with that.
Paul on the other hand, is just amazing. I read his story some years ago, but it was a great reminder to be happy with your lot.
