In your head you have a character, one you have an in-depth relationship with.

If you don't have that depth of relationship then you must stop and dig deeply until you find her.

You are the writer and only you can decide. You will know when you have carved her perfectly and to your satisfaction, because she will speak to you, defy you, challenge your stance on things, and then you will know you have succeeded.
