I suppose I have always asked myself what I personally can be doing wrong before going down the pathway of drugs.
I worry that doctors seem unaware of alternatives.
Our long-term GP, now retired, was the one who immediately put Alistair on medication.
Behind the scenes, very soon after, I was in the throes of changing his diet. He was already fit, playing sport, and running.
On one occasion the GP said to him, 'Your cholesterol is great, but let's get it down further.' He the prescribed Cresstor which I picked up. It was hugely expensive, and when we opened it up it came with six pages of warnings.
I took it back but was told theirs was a no-return policy.I was furious and told them the warnings should have come before purchase and not after.
Back to our same GP who ordered a battery of tests and later called Alistair to come in see him.
Imagine!
When he got there all he wanted say was his results were all perfect. He had no idea what he was doing, but whatever it was, keep it up. For that he charged a long consultation.
