I remember the day as if it were yesterday. The queen was passing through our village. We all lined up in the main street, flags at the ready, excitement at fever pitch.

What we expected was probably fashioned from my eight-year-old head, that she would walk out and say hello, maybe even choose me to chat with.

Instead she waved a hand, and a moment in time, was gone. I can't even begin to explain how let down I felt.

And then it was back to school...can't even recall our teacher discussing it.
