I remember a parent telling me she had read her child's diary...the child had written angry words about her. What should she do?

My answer was that the diary wasn't hers to read, and that she had much to lose in confronting her daughter., that diaries serve a purpose., the entries are private , doesn't matter what hell you read. Putting time between the read would tell her what she should do, and it was nothing to do with confronting her child.
