… possible that such perilous forms of research are allowed to proceed — in China or anywhere else? Why are we fooling around with anything that could inadvertently cause this amount of carnage and suffering? I’ve seen the proposed justifications — to help us prepare for future pandemics, etc. — but, at least to me, they seem woefully incommensurate to the risks.

I read that Fauchi, having had the gain-of-function research closed down by Obama, I believe,, exactly because of the enormous risks therein, took it to Wuhan.
'Fooling around' what a great way of looking at this. What fools WOULD tamper with anything so dangerous?
