I once taught a student, who'd been accelerated two years ahead of his peers. He was such a great writer, but in my class he hit a brick wall. But with lots of patience and encouragement on my part, he turned a corner, and all was well. Someone later asked him, 'So when did you become a great writer?' He thought about that for a minute and then said, 'I think it was when I actually crossed the Blue Mountains,' a unit of work about exploreration and discovery.
Today he is a screen writer and movie producer.
