I just love this, because the reality is, most homework is given because parents expect it. And for students who are able, as you obviously were, a time-waster.
I applaud your good manners and confidence. I imagine none of your teachers ever forgot you.
The topic of homework is fraught. All-round agreement will never be reached and that's because culturally we bring our different perspectives to things.
I once taught a little Asian boy. He was by far the brightest in the class, but he had to practice piano for two hours every night, plus do way more homework than his peers, especially maths.
On Saturdays he had to attend Vietnamese classes.
He begged me to talk to his parents which I did. At the same time I had to respect that they wanted their son to excel.
