I grew up in the Catholic religion Michael, and I felt so sorry for all those who didn't. They were going straight to hell.
But as I grew and had my own thoughts, I noted the same as you, that people would go to mass and leave the church and bad-mouth people.
I also can remember cringing as the Easter and Christmas dues were read out, money one was expected to pay to the church at the time.
We lived in a little village where not many people had money, yet, because these amounts were read out, people gave far more than they could afford.
My dad had a little business in the village. One day he went home for lunch, and returned to find it had burned to the ground.
I have no idea how we emerged from all of this. But we did, and I can tell you, not a penny came from the church or from the congregation. In fact, many who owed Dad money, crossed to the other side of the street so they didn't have to discuss their debts with him.
So you posed the question, Which Religion is Right?
The only one that resonates with me is a personal religion, one of heart, one that cares, not just for people, but for the environment, our streams and rivers, the world beneath our feet, that keeps on giving, our animals, and oceans,
You simply cannot be a part of any religion is you don't care.
