I can so relate to this.

When we first came to Canberra, a Vietnamese family moved next door.

We had each bought new homes.

They had nothing, and like your parents they worked night and day sewing as you described.

They also had a little business where they put letters into envelopes. This was done by the children.

As my daughter grew into a five-year-old, she too would go over to their house and help.

She LOVED it. Little did she realize how poor the family was.

In no time at all though, they had furnished their home and set up their tailoring business.

When their eldest daughter was getting married she asked if our daughter would be a flower girl with her youngest sister, Yen who at the time was our daughters best friend.

We also attended the wedding. It was such a joyous occasion.

We were not wealthy, but we did try to help them, but in looking back, maybe we should have done much more.
