I am in shock, Frances.
I was a primary school teacher, in a Catholic school, and we loved our Asian students. They were intelligent, hard-working and dependable. They enjoyed good friendships too.
I wouldn't go as far as to say they were not bullied. I don't think so, but neither do I know for certain.
It could be that as a staff we stamped out any hint of racism.
But I just read some of your article to my husband, who did his doctorate in Sydney, and he agreed that racism was alive and well when he was studying.
We whites have a lot to answer for.
