Today’s random word is: alcohol

The story is based on the image above.

Bernard owned his behaviour. He knew he could be a beast when he drank alcohol, but it was his business, and the hangovers he kept to himself. They didn’t hurt anyone!

But that wasn’t true.

His drinking sent his family into spiralling fear and shame.

On one occasion his lovely daughters were returning from school with friends, when one pointed out a drunk lying wiped out in the gutter.

“No worries. That’s my dad … always drunk … he has no idea how much hurt he causes.”

But Bernard heard, instantly realising his life was dictated by a dice roll.

If you’re not already on board with writing drabbles, (short, 100-word stories, no more, no less,) do yourself a favour. Get stuck in! They are a lot of fun to write, but also serve as a lesson in tight writing, given the 100-word constraint.
