Hi L E, I remember lots about this. I have a Filipino friend whose father was one of Marcos' right-hand men. It took him many years to see what was happening, and he had to get out of the country.
He planned his escape over a long time, with his children, and in the early 1980s, landed in Canberra and immediately sought political asylum. This was granted.
The trouble then, was that he was then a 'wanted' man. and could not go back to his home until after the death of Marcus.
He has since passed on, but he and his wide did return to live, and die in their country.
As for amassing all that wealth at the expense of the Filipino people, I saw evidence of that myself when visiting the country. On one side of a road were gated communities where wealthy people lived in super-large homes, and on the other, literally livig under galvanised sheets, people were living and cooking.
How you become inured to such incredible poverty, I have no idea, but it happens.
Let's pray that Bonbong doesn't even get close to a sniff of being elected. Interesting that in a predominately Catholic country, this kind of thing happens.
