Hi Julian - thank you for a wonderful post on the keto diet and its effects on people with mental health issues.

Like you I have read widely on the topic of keto and I am convinced of its merits.

When a family is impacted by mental health, everyone suffers. I hope you and your son find a resolution to his issues.

I think you are either convinced of keto and it benefits, and convinced of the harmful effects of processed food, such that there is no in between.

Some years ago I was teaching a year four class. It was one student's birthday and muffins had been ordered from the tuck shop. I tried to convince the birthday boy to have the muffins at the end of the day, because I knew there was another student who would react o the additives.

Well that didn't happen. The students had their muffins and went off to recess.

When the other student came back in his eyes were glazed, and he started to throw chairs around the room, upturn desks, totally oblivious to the harm he could be doing.

I managed to get all the other students to safety, and to get some help, but by then he was calmer and sitting under a tree in the far end of the playground.

I was able to sit with him and talk things through.

Sadly the other students were seriously impacted and the one positive was I was able to explain about additives in food and how easily they can impact a child.

This boy was lovely student by the way.
