Hi James. I'm happy we're on the same page on this. Some years ago we experimented on the learning journey for our classes. We started with what the students already knew about a topic, and that was exhibited on the wall close to the classroom door.

We progressed around the room as students built their knowledge base, all student learning either exhibited, or filed in individual files. We tried really hard to ensure that no child was left behind.

By the time we'd got back to the same door, there was huge evidence of individual growth.

On parent/teacher night, we put asked the students to take responsibility for showing their parents what they now knew.

It was the best night ever. We sat back and watched as all students, regardless of ability, were able to chat meaningfully with their parents.

We also got some terrific feedback. Always a bonus. :)
