Here in Australia, long-term renters like Keeley, who have done all the right things and more, found themselves homeless overnight. Landlords are often refusing to fix huge problems that are their responsibility to fix. Often they get away with it because renters are aware that there are many others prepared to just get in.

I wrote of a family, the father an air traffic controller, who had religiously paid his rent and overnight was tossed out by a greedy landlord. He doesn't qualify for government help because he earns too much. I looked up his salary, and it's not high, so rules need to be changed to reflect and take account of rental prices in the market.

AIRBNB has had a huge impact on the lack of houses to rent. That business stated out ten years ago by two lads who couldn't pay their rent. It's now worth ten billion. That is an out-of-control horse.

The house across the road from me rents for $370 per night, plus $50 for cleaning. It is rarely empty. That house would normally have been one for rent.

Keeley, I do hope you find a home to rent. It's tough, and the competition is fierce. We need legislation NOW, so that greedy landlords are forced to do the right thing.
