Ericajean, Hi!
STEM, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, takes me back to my childhood where the perceived 'less gifted' did home economics (girls) and woodwork (boys). and the rest of the students, the elite, did science, mathematics, Latin and French AND. English. English was necessary for entry into university.
The people who studied science and mathematics, for instance, often fell short in other intellects.
And these were the very intellects that would have enabled them to be better business people.
The 8 Multiple Intelligences draws on the work of Dr. Howard Gardner.
"The concept of multiple intelligences is a theory proposed by Harvard psychologist Howard Gardner. When you hear the word intelligence, the concept of IQ testing may immediately come to mind. Intelligence is often defined as our intellectual potential; something we are born with, something that can be measured, and a capacity that is difficult to change.
In recent years, however, other views of intelligence have emerged, including Gardner's suggestion that multiple different types of intelligence may exist. The eight intelligences according to Gardner are:
Visual-spatial
Linguistic-verbal
Logical-mathematical
Body-kinesthetic
Musical
Interpersonal
Intrapersonal
Naturalistic"
All of us draw on different intelligences, our strengths.
But we also have weaknesses that need to be built on.

Schools these days endeavour to give all students a fair go, so that they enter the workforce better skilled to deal with problems for instance, or to share their gifts.
A friend of mine, a teacher, started up a business in Canberra, where students in their last two years of school could train in hospitality.
This meant that they were one year ahead when they actually left school and attended tech training.
To be honest, I am convinced students leave school these days better able to fit into the market than in my days.
What do you think?
